West Zone needs just four wickets on Day 5 of the 2022 Duleep Trophy Final to beat South Zone and lift the championship. Setting a gargantuan target of 529, South Zone collapsed on Day 4 in Coimbatore at 154 for six. The batting team needed 375 more runs for an unlikely victory on the final day of the game.
South Zone starter Rohan Kunnummal (93 of 100) played an excellent stroke. However, he got no support from the other end and as a result, the West Zone bowlers were never under any kind of pressure. The experienced Mayank Agarwal (14) went down cheaply, caught in the middle as he gained an advantage while trying to cut off Jaydev Unadkat.
Atit Sheth then launched an excellent delivery to find the edge of Hanuma Vihari (one). First-inning centurion Baba Indrajith (four) also fell to the same bowler, cutting a backstroke. At the other end, Kunnummal eased to 51 50 balls. However, West Zone continued to cut wickets.
Manish Pandey was caught in the leg earlier by Unadkat for 14, while Ricky Bhui (13) hit Shams Mulani slipping. Kunnummal looked a hundred percent good. However, in ’93, Mulani took him down, hit by a slider while looking for a cut.
In the stumps on Day 4 of the 2022 Duleep Trophy final, T Ravi Teja was batting in eight and R Sai Kishore in one.
Sarfaraz Khan criticizes ton for West Zone after Yashasvi Jaiswal 265
Earlier, resuming their second inning at 376 for three, West Zone called at 585 for four calls. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was undefeated at 209 overnight, scored 265. Sarfaraz Khan, who resumed his innings at 30*, completed a century and was batting at 127 when West Zone declared his second inning.
Jaiswal and Sarfaraz’s place for fourth wicket was worth 164 runs. The partnership was broken when the double centurion was knocked off Krishnappa Gowtham’s bowling alley. His fabulous innings included 30 fours and four sixes.
Sarfaraz and Het Patel (51*) continued to frustrate the South Zone bowlers, adding an unbroken 103 for the fifth wicket. After West Zone’s declaration, their bowlers continued the great work, with Unadkat, Sheth and Mulani each claiming two wickets.
