When Frey Holland is transported to the mysterious land of Athia, one thing quickly becomes clear: this isn’t just her new home. It’s her playground.
The Forspoken heroine is capable of amazing magic-enhanced parkour, allowing her to jump, flip, slide, and jump around the world with amazing fluidity. You can get a closer look at how it all works in our new deep dive into parkour:

So what exactly was Frey doing in this video? Read on and we’ll tell you a bit more about the parkour abilities he has at his disposal and how he can use them.
Flow
This is one of Frey’s core powers, and the beating heart of parkour in Forspoken.
It is activated by holding down the circle button; when he is in this state, Frey will dash around the world with amazing speed and amazing grace. He will automatically jump over small rocks and ledges, jump over small walls and do his best to keep moving in the direction you tell him.
Of course, there are limits. Using Flow alone won’t allow Frey to scale a cliff or scale a tall building, plus it requires stamina. To really move with style, you need to combine Flow with Frey’s other moves and learn how to chain them together.
Think of it as the foundation of a system that puts you in control of the journey, rather than the game doing it all for you. The better you play, the better you’ll move, and the cooler Frey will look.
Rush
The Rush ability allows you to flow even faster by pressing the buttons at the right time.
As you use Flow, you will occasionally see flames briefly emanating from Frey. She presses the circle button upon seeing this visual prompt and she will fast forward keeping her pace faster than hers. Even better, she also allows you to maintain top speeds while regaining some stamina.
It’s a good example of how Forspoken’s parkour system is easy to pick up but has a real sense of mastery. Someone new to the game can get around just fine with basic Flow, but expert players working on Rush can go farther and faster, for much longer.
T-shirt
Do you want to increase your speed quickly? Shimmy time.
This move allows Frey to get up off the ground to speed up. Press X at the right time and Frey will do a little jump forward. If you press X again when she lands, you can keep going at amazing speeds.
It’s also great because it’s another stamina-conserving move. Many abilities rely on this resource, and when it runs out, so does Frey’s current run. Sometimes taking a well-timed breather is helpful, as your stamina will quickly recharge when Frey isn’t using an ability.
This is why abilities like Shimmy and Rush are so useful. Because they don’t consume stamina, they allow you to extend a run much further than you normally would. The better you play, the longer you can keep your flow…and the more amazing you’ll feel!
Scale
Flow can help you climb a wall, but to get higher, you have to learn to climb.
This ability allows Frey to create ghost footholds to launch himself into the air. You can use this to give yourself the boost you need to get to the top of a structure or launch yourself to keep moving smoothly through the world.
Having this extra jump available is great, but you know what would be really awesome? Have an extra extra jump. Speaking of…
Soar
Soar allows you to climb even higher by making multiple jumps in quick succession.
As his name implies, Soar allows Frey to reach incredible heights that are unreachable with a normal jump – that extra height is a real game changer, allowing him to reach otherwise inaccessible areas and opening up even more opportunities for wacky parkour. .
Granted, it may not be the flashiest skill in Frey’s repertoire, but you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it!
Zipper
Zip though, now that’s eye-catching!
By pressing the square button, you can make Frey launch a magical tether, pulling it towards anything it connects with. It’s useful for keeping you moving forward in situations where you might not otherwise reach a ledge, or for bypassing a stage that might otherwise slow your forward momentum.
Alternatively, you can hold square to slow down the action and target areas you want to target specifically. While Zip can stick to any wall, it really comes into its own when you’re aiming at certain objects found throughout the world. These allow Frey to swing forward at incredible speeds or launch himself into the air!
Float
You have flown, climbed, ascended and accelerated to the heights, but you need to get down quickly, what should you do? Use Float, of course!
This endlessly useful ability allows Frey to manipulate gravity to smooth out any fall. He just hold down the X button in the air and he can smoothly slide down at a controlled speed.
Of course, the applications go far beyond mere survival – it’s also fantastic in general traversal situations. Float allows you to effortlessly bridge large gaps: do you want to reach the other side of a ravine or jump from one building to another? In many cases, you can simply slide to where you want to be.
Just be careful – you’ll still be going down slowly, so when going long distances it’s best to combine it with other parkour skills like Zip.
Glide
Water slows it down, blocks its path, and often contains many-toothed monstrosities eager to use it as a chew toy. In other words, it is the enemy of parkour.
Unless you have the Glide ability, of course.
You’ve probably seen this one in the trailers. Allows Frey to glide across the surface of the water. If Frey has learned the skill, it automatically activates when you Flow on flashy things; just hold Circle to start navigating.
The speed and style with which he can travel make every lake, river and sea an opportunity to show off in style. it’s particularly useful when fighting some of the aforementioned wet monsters: with this ability you can make circles around them. Or, more accurately, Glide sounds all around you.
Forspoken is one of those games where the act of moving itself is a lot of fun. Traversal isn’t just about getting from A to B, it’s about getting there with skill and style.
It’s up to you to figure out how to combine these different magical abilities to achieve that feeling of ‘flowing’ through the world, and when you do it’s hugely satisfying and endlessly enjoyable.
