Congress committees of both states passed the resolution to make Rahul Gandhi party chairman, with Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel saying on Sunday the Wayanad MP should “reconsider” his decision on the matter.
“The Chhattisgarh Congress Committee and the Rajasthan Cong Committee have made this proposal. It has been made in two states, but if this proposal also comes from other states, then Rahul ji should reconsider this matter,” Baghel said in naming Rahul. Gandhi as party president.

The Chhattisgarh Congress unanimously passed a resolution calling for Rahul Gandhi to re-assume the party’s presidency.
The Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee held an important meeting. The agenda of the meeting is an organizational election in the state unit.
The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, the state party in charge PL Punia and other state leaders.
Notably, the Rajasthan Congress Committee also passed a resolution to appoint Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as party president.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot tabled a proposal at the meeting which stated that the Congress President should select the state president from the RPCC and AICC delegates.
Congress Working Committee member Raghuveer Meena approved the proposal, which was also endorsed by State President Govind Singh Dotsara.
Earlier, while addressing the media during the Congress Bharat Jodo Yatra, the MP from Wayanad had said, “Whether I become the Congress President or not, it will be clear when the elections for the position of President take place. But I have decided what I will do and there is no confusion in my mind.”
The call for the election of the president of Congress will come out on September 22. Nominations for the position of president of Congress can be submitted from September 24 to 30. The last day to submit the application is September 30, 2022 and the last date to withdraw nominations is October 8.
The Congressional Working Committee (CWC) had decided that the election for the post of congressional president will be held on October 17, the sources said.
The counting of votes will be done on October 19.
This comes against the background of the resignation of the party’s main leader, Gulam Nabi Azad, on Friday.
According to the sources, the election for the post of president has now become a challenge for Congress with Rahul Gandhi’s reluctance to contest the polls.
The Central Electoral Authority has made preparations to complete the electoral process on time.
The process seems stalled as Rahul Gandhi is not willing to contest the elections for the position of president of Congress, although all efforts to convince him continue, the sources added.
Rahul Gandhi was the President of Congress from 2017 to 2019.
When Rahul Gandhi was elected president of Congress in 2017, state units passed a similar resolution. He resigned following the party’s debacle in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
