Details about Amazon Video’s Fallout series continue to come very slowly, but Bethesda head Todd Howard gave the biggest revelation yet in a podcast on Wednesday: the show won’t be following any storylines from the games.
Rather than pick up on something fans have already seen and experienced in the Fallout Wasteland, Howard told podcaster Lex Fridman that the series will take on a new story, but set in the same world as the games.
“When people wanted to make it into a movie, they wanted to tell the story of fallout 3 or tell the story of consequences 4Howard said. “For this, it was ‘Let’s make something that exists in the world of Fallout.’ It is not retelling the story of a game. It’s basically an area of the map and like, Let’s tell a story here that fits into the world we build and doesn’t break any of the rules. It can reference things in the games, but it’s not a count of the games. It exists in the same world, but it’s something unique to itself, so it adds up.”
While this isn’t a lot of information to go on, it’s the latest and biggest breadcrumb we’ve gotten so far on the series. In terms of trailer for the series, Amazon has previously released a single teaser image.
However, we do know a bit more about the talent involved. The show is being created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, the duo behind HBO. Western world. Nolan, according to Howard, is a longtime fan of fallout 3, which is why he jumped at the chance to create this series. We also meet several cast members, including Ella Purnell (yellow jackets), Kyle MacLachlan (twin peaks) and Walton Goggins (Justified).
As for the release date, it’s likely that the Fallout series won’t arrive until late 2023, or even 2024.
