AUS vs ENG: Glenn McGrath concerned about future of ODI Cricket after near-empty slots at MCG

Australia Cricket Team Whitewashed England 3-0 in the recently concluded ODI Series. Australia was quite ruthless in their approach, never allowing the England cricket team to stamp their authority. It seemed that England was exhausted as on November 13 they had played the final of the T20 World Cup 2022 and on November 17 the series began.

England would be dejected as they showed no intention throughout the series. In the third ODI match, the team made an ugly record of losing the match by 221 runs, which is their biggest defeat in ODI Cricket.

Glenn McGrath in Cricket ODIs

In the 3rd ODI at MCG, there were approx 4000 spectators on the ground which was pretty shocking. Glenn McGrath was seen interacting with the PA news agency and asked about the third ODI at MCG. “It was so disappointing to see crowds like that, ODIs are really under pressure at the moment. Melbourne is ranked as the sporting capital of Australia, if not the world, they absolutely love their sport. So for them to turn out in the numbers that they did, says a lot about where we are.” McGrath said.

“The international calendar is difficult enough. I think they have to respect each series and each game, it has to mean something. I hope ODI cricket continues, I have a lot of good memories of it and I would still put ODI World Cup as more important than T20. But the format is under pressure and we have to see how we keep people coming to these games.” added.

Big win for Australia

The England Series for Australia was quite fruitful as the team performed exceptionally well under new patron Pat Cummins. The team was quite dominant as the team got an exciting pairing in the form of Travis Head and David Warner.

Skipper Pat Cummins was quite spot on with his captaincy as he was rotating his bowlers perfectly. It didn’t look like he was captaining for the first time in the ODI format. He was well accompanied by Josh Hazlewood, who had taken the reins for the second ODI match.
