After India’s humiliating loss to England in the semi-finals of the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup, it was widely believed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) would make significant changes to the way the national teams were administered.
Following the revelation that the selection committee was fired as a result of India’s dismal performance, insiders revealed that the BCCI has a new strategy for T20I and ODI teams, i.e. a separate team for each format.

India’s calendar is packed, starting with the home season on January 3.
While there is much speculation surrounding Rohit Sharma’s future as T20I captain and Hardik Pandya’s ascension, the way BCCI operates suggests no decision will be made and a quiet phasing out process to follow.

India plays 12 white-ball games in 29 days between January 3 and February 1, including six against New Zealand and six against Sri Lanka.
Six ODIs and six T20Is are being played in 12 different cities, which means 12 different flights. While travel is an underappreciated component of workload management, T20I and ODI titles are predicted to be at least 75 to 80 per cent different.
BCCI has never operated on public sentiment:
The ODI squad may include players that team management believe will play in the 2023 edition.
“Why do you feel the need to announce Rohit’s departure as T20I captain? T20Is it the top priority in 2023? No. BCCI has never operated on the sentiments of the public. Operate your way”explained a BCCI veteran.
“But yes, you can easily ask Rohit, Virat and KL Rahul to focus on ODIs and Test series against Australia, which are more important at the moment, and let Hardik lead all six T20Is.” said a BCCI veteran.
This decision comes as the ICC ODI World Cup is due to take place in India in 2023.
