Brahmastra: PVR CEO opens up on losing Rs 800 crore after Ranbir-Alia starrer garnered negative reviews

Brahmastra starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt has opened up mixed opinions from film critics and audiences alike. While some found the film identical to Hollywood, some said the sci-fi splendor lacked soul. Amid the negative reviews, Brahmastra was reported to incur losses of Rs 800 crore to PVR and Inox investors. Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut also shared the report saying that director Ayan Mukerji burned the money and turned it into ashes. In response to persistent rumors about Brahmastra incurring heavy losses, Kamal Jianchandani, CEO of PVR, denied the reports saying they were unfounded and untrue. In a series of tweets, Gianchandani said the PVR theater chain has done an exceptional job with Brahmastra by collecting Rs 8.18 crore net on its first day of launch. He also compared Brahmastra’s box office collection with the performance of other films like Kartik Aaryan, Kiara Advani starrer Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (Rs 3.26 crore), SS Rajamouli’s Magnum opus RRR (Rs 8.64 crore) starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR, Rocking Star Yash’s KGF 2 (Rs. 11.95 crore), Alia Bhatt Gangopi Kathyawadi (Rs 2.58 crore) and Suryavanshi Akshay Kumar (Rs 5.08 crore). He also said that the audience’s judgment is positive and they are enjoying the film and spreading the news about it. He said PVR is having a great weekend which is kind of encouraging considering the huge movie lineup over the next three months.

Aside from Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, Brahmastra is also starring Moni Roy, Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna and Shah Rukh Khan in a special. The film was produced with a budget of over Rs 400 crore and was released across 5,000 screens in India and over 3,000 screens abroad.
