It’s 2022, but Christian Siriano sure has us fooled into thinking we’re taking a time machine back to the golden age of Hollywood, immersing ourselves in a rich mid-20th-century catwalk experience on New York’s Upper East Side. Taking place inside the six-story townhouse of none other than Elizabeth Taylor, Siriano showcased its Spring-Summer 2023 offering, which was a celebration of femininity with a historic yet palpably refreshed output. In the audience sitting directly in front of the catwalk were celebrities such as the incomparable Janet JacksonFashion Icon Coco Rock and EIC from Fashion Bomb Daily Claire Sulmers.
The collection, as Christian himself said, seeks to transport us to that time of old Hollywood, and it did! Like the legends of Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, and even Diana Ross once did, this collection accentuates feminine features through long lines, cinched waists, ruffles, and pleats in all the right areas. These very embellishments speak to the individuality that Hollywood sought to ensure in each and every star or would-be star. In this sense, Siriano’s hope is that the collection will allow those who wear it to enjoy their interior style icon and stand out.
In addition to ruffles and pleats, wide-brimmed hats, transparent tulle, organza, and beaded fabrics that captured the light with each movement made from the recurring trends in this collection. The master designer also experimented with voluminous silhouettes that weren’t entirely typical of the era, but perfectly fit the current zeitgeist and successfully updated once-old styles to now convey them in a modern way.
