DJ Akademiks and Ebro Darden exchange words on claims DaBaby was BlackBalled after projected poor album sales for ‘Baby On Baby 2’

Black ball or not? For weeks there has been talk of the downfall of DaBaby’s career. From a canceled show in New Orleans because fewer than 500 people bought tickets to see the rapper when the venue has a capacity of 14,000. Now to low album sales with his latest release, ‘Baby On Baby 2’. The project is projected to move 16,000 units in its first week. Which is low compared to his previous solo record, 2020’s ‘Blame It On Baby’.

According to Billboard, that album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and moved 124,000 album-equivalent units. DJ Akademiks has dedicated himself to Baby and even criticized radio personality and Apple Music Global Hip-Hop & R&B Editorial Head Ebro Darden for allegedly criticizing the rapper.

Akademiks and Ebro started coming and going on Wednesday night and kept the same energy today.

Ebro denied having banned Baby and having any control of the charts, saying that the consumers of his music are the ones with the power. “What YOU, the consumer, skip over in a playlist and what you play to the end decides what’s hot. Literally ANY artist can put their music on ANY platform. His fans can listen at their leisure. That behavior speaks the truth,” she wrote.

Akademiks shared his piece and said he wasn’t assembling for any artist in particular, it’s just a start. “It can happen to anyone… We’ve seen it before. I have to say something before it happens to your favorite,” he tweeted. He wasn’t the only one who came to Baby’s defense. Meek Mill and Boosie agreed that the Charlotte native is being shut out.

Low ticket sales don’t seem to bother Baby. As we recently reported, she posted a message on her Instagram about poor album sales saying, “Not bad for da BlackBalled Baby.”

Roommates, what do you think about this?
