ENG vs SA: England take on Queen Elizabeth II to register impressive win – Ben Stokes

England captain Ben Stokes revealed the team took “huge amounts of inspiration” from Queen Elizabeth II’s legacy to seal victory in the third Test against South Africa. The Three Lions won the deciding Test by nine wickets to win the series 2-1.

Earlier on Thursday, the second day of the final Test was canceled out of respect following the Queen’s death. Tributes were held before the game on Saturday. Stokes said he would “never forget” the atmosphere at The Oval on Saturday.

Ben Stokes recounted the surreal moment when the crowd observed a minute’s silence.

The crowd fell silent as the players and umpires, all wearing black armbands, entered the field through a military guard of honour, before an official minute’s silence. Singer Laura Wright was the first to perform the anthems. South Africa Before God Save the King, followed by sustained applause from the crowd.

Speaking after the match, the 31-year-old all-rounder said, “I’ll never forget walking up the stairs out of the changing room to total silence. We didn’t know it was going to happen. The silence was deafening. It was unbelievable.”

He added, “You can see the upset but you can also see that everyone has respect for the Queen and for her service to the country and around the world. I’ve never experienced anything like this before and it’s very special to be a part of it. . Singing the national anthem with a little change was special again. I’ll never forget that day.”

The England team tried to bring honor to the country by emulating Queen Elizabeth’s success.

Britain’s longest-reigning Queen Elizabeth II died on Thursday at the age of 96 after a 70-year reign.

After the first day was washed out and the second day was cancelled, the third day’s play began, with England completing a resounding victory on Monday morning.

Stokes said he told his team before the match that they were “hugely inspired” by what the Queen had done “to commit her life to the country during her reign”.

He added, “We obviously don’t do it anywhere near as much as it did for 70 years. We go out there and we represent this country, and we do it with great pride and honor.”
