The Bates family of Tennessee is often compared to the Duggar family.
It makes sense, because they’re also a big fundamentalist clan that previously starred in a staple reality series, but has since had a hard time.
do it very hard times.
Sure, the Bates’ fall from grace wasn’t as quick and severe as the Duggars, but given their financial situation and interactions with their former fans, it’s hard to believe these guys were ever famous.

The latest controversy surrounding the Bates family centered around Carlin.
No, unfortunately, we’re not talking about the late comedy legend George Carlin (although it would be nice if he somehow caused trouble for a family of opportunistic chests from beyond the grave).
Instead, we’re talking about Carlyn Bates and the strange situation regarding her health – and her husband’s apparent desire to profit from a family crisis.
The Bateses series Bad Luck started when UpTV was canceled Bring Bates earlier this year.
(The decision may have had something to do with the scandals surrounding the Duggars, who had long been close friends of the Bates clan.)
Then things got a lot worse, as 24-year-old Carlene Bates had an epileptic fit after the birth of her second child.
Carlene and her husband Evan Stewart made the controversial decision to film some of Carlene’s worst moments in their YouTube videos.
You can watch one such clip below, but be warned that it contains some nice graphic moments.
As Ashley’s Reality Roundup reports, many commentators were unhappy with the decision to post videos of Carlin’s outbursts, and some went so far as to accuse Evan of opportunism.
“Why do you have to show this? One commenter wrote that poor Carlin needs help and privacy.
“Why do you film that? It shows that you only care about opinions and not the actual human being who is your wife!” Another accuser.
“So sad to see this for Laila. Someone must move her,” a third rang, pointing to the couple’s daughter.
“Everyone on Facebook is afraid to post this video of your wife in such a vulnerable state. Please consider removing this part,” advised a third.
Stewart also revealed that Evan was recently quit his job as an electrician after the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) time lapsed.
“[I] Need 24/7 someone watching [me]Carlin said in the video. “I look like a child.”

“She hates it because, like we said, you’re fine 90 percent of the time, but when you’re not, you have to make sure someone is there,” Evan explained.
“The FMLA is all exhausted at this point. So pretty much, to be honest, they should fire me. But that’s no shadow of them; they’ve been so sweet and all but that’s exactly what’s going on,” Stewart continued.
“They had to take me off their payroll, so they did… I don’t blame them. They don’t want to keep someone on their list who can’t be there.”
Carlin says she feels bad that Evan was forced to put his career on hold, but it’s not all bad news.
Evan is assigned to Bates Sisters Boutique, the clothing store in Rocky Top, Tennessee owned by Carlin.
“So [I was] Launched and rented on the same day! Evan joked. “And my wife is my new boss.”
We wish these two all the best as they navigate these challenging times!
