‘Extremely clear and obvious’, ‘That was out’: Patriots fans and NFL analysts lose their minds after officials fail to overturn game-tying Raiders TD

In NFL regular season action, the Las Vegas Raiders took their game against the New England Patriots to overtime, but there is some scrutiny surrounding it. With the Raiders and Derek Carr needing a touchdown to tie it, the quarterback threw the ball deep for Keelan Cole.

The receiver caught the pass, but it looked like it was out of bounds. However, after an official review, the call stuck, much to the amazement of NFL fans everywhere.

What are the odds that the Patriots will make the playoffs?

To most viewers at home, Cole was “definitely” out of bounds for the play and one NFL fan said it was clear and obvious that he was out of bounds.

“Extremely clear and obvious.”

Another fan flatly said that Cole was off limits.

“That was out. Period. It was clear and obvious that it was out. I don’t know what the league was looking at, but if that was what everyone was seeing, then something was terribly wrong in their eyes.”

Other fans had their take on the call.

The Refs didn’t screw us for once. If it’s not clear and obvious and the referee is there, keep the call on the field.

Struggling to see a clear and obvious angle to bring him down. I think the decision on the field is key here.

@NFL Someone explain to me how this was called a touchdown – half of their left foot is clearly out of bounds and they didn’t explain anything when they confirmed it so I’m really curious and confused.

@NFL I was out 💀💀💀

@NFL He is out. NFL right after the views. Refereeing in this league is a joke.

It’s clear that all the fans think Cole was off the hook. Unfortunately, the call was to the Raiders.

What is the clear and obvious rule in the NFL?

According to the official rules of the NFL, clear and obvious means:

“A ruling on the field will be changed only when the SVP of officiating or his designee determines that clear and obvious visual evidence warrants a change.”

According to the official rule book, the senior vice president of officiating thought there was no “clear and obvious” visual evidence to overturn the on-field ruling, which was a touchdown.

While that may seem strange, given that most fans have access to the freeze frame of Cole apparently having his foot on the line, it would put him off limits.

The call on the field stuck and many fans everywhere were left scratching their heads.
