The thing about the internet is that it’s permanent. Scrub all you want, but no amount of skin grafts or laser removal gets rid of a Cottonmouth Kings tattoo. While you can have expert ink on top of it hoping no one will notice it, your idiot friends have surely documented proof of its existence that will never be deleted from their phones. It’s on the cloud, my friend.

So it’s quite absurd that Gary Player got a round of applause for his call for a split from Cam Smith’s LIV Tour when he vigorously defended Phil Mickelson and his comments about the Saudi Masters League.

First, here it is From Comments on Smith.

“This is a young man I really thought would be a star. Now, what kind of future is it [Smith] You have? Will he be able to fulfill this great dream of being a champion? I don’t know. I don’t blame [Henrik] Stinson to go. He had no money, so he had to go. But this is a potential star. I think his advisors gave him the wrong advice.”

This came during an interview in which he mixed up shots of the LIV Tour, questioned its format, saying that he “won’t take a billion dollars for my nine majors on both tours”, “it’s a tour for people who don’t have confidence in their future”, and that the new league “declared war on the PGA Tour.”

Well Gary, where was your fucking sight when you were He was wearing a Saudi golf shirt During the first ceremonial leadership in the Masters? In the recording, he said Mickelson was unfairly “crucified” for his comments on the Saudis.

“I think it’s pathetic. Something amazing. From the epitome of perfection, [Mickelson is] There are crucified. It’s not right,” The 86-year-old said:.

“The greatest PR guy on the golf tour in the last five years or so has been Phil Mickelson. He was the perfect guy for the sponsor, for the professional golfer, for the audience, the way he treats the audience with dignity and love. And he said he’s sorry. I said to him, raise your head. High. I erred. Everyone errs. He must go on with his life.”

If that isn’t an endorsement for Mickelson to lead a parade of ferrets off a cliff, I don’t know what is. This isn’t Smith’s defense either. What the player said this week about the Saudi tour is accurate. He loses all meaning only after he has given consent to men to jump ship.

He can throw whatever he wants about Smith’s advisors, but they probably rely a lot on what they do on the fact that big name golfers are Very good at what they do. When “the greatest PR man on the golf tour” is underestimated by his controversial statement by a living legend, Greg Norman pimpers on a LIV tour like the next evolution of slices of bread, and plenty of Smith’s peers make a switch, what does the player expect? what the hell?

If the elderly South African golfer thought he was just offering an option to the laundered “broken” players to get back some of the money he had in store for the PGA, then he should have driven with that. He didn’t, and the reckless enthusiasm of the Player and the others is what got golf here in the first place.

So I don’t want to see or hear any headline about removing a player from the LIV round. We have the receipts, and circled with a big yellow highlighter is to buy that Saudi golf turtleneck – which, According to recent emails from PGA officialshe is now upset about the events that he admits.

Thanks for a little self-righteousness, but it’s laughably late.
