According to ABC News, Texas Governor Greg Abbott sent a bus with 50 migrants to the home of Kamala Harris today. This comes just two days after the Republican governor sent two buses to her home at the Naval Observatory. The migrants were mainly from Venezuela, and there was a newborn among the group. Governor Abbott previously announced on Twitter that he sent two buses of migrants to the vice president’s residence on Thursday. He tweeted: “We are sending immigrants to your backyard to ask the Biden Administration to do their job and secure the border.”
Governor Abbott and other Republican leaders from border states have been sending immigrants to Democratic-led cities for months. Reports indicate leaders are calling it a protest over President Joe Biden’s immigration policies amid an influx of immigrants at the southern border. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis dropped off approximately 100 migrants in front of VP Harris’ home in Washington DC and on Martha’s Vineyard.
Unfortunately, some Democratic leaders say they received no advance warning that immigrants were coming. Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker said the state has since offered to voluntarily transport migrants from Martha’s Vineyard to a temporary shelter at Joint Base Cape Cod. A Venezuelan immigrant, Victor, spoke to ABC News reporter, Armando García, about his experience.
Victor explained that he was there when someone asked the migrants to sign their names on a list to get a seat on the plane. He advised against signing up because the offer sounded too fishy and didn’t line up with his plans to eventually make it to New York City. Victor told the reporter that he felt the other immigrants were tricked into taking those flights and he understood why they took the risk. “It’s complicated because they tell you that you will have everything you want, but when they arrived, people were basically lost,” he said.
Vice President Harris has not addressed the migrants at her home, but President Joe Biden has criticized the migrant arrivals as “just wrong.” He said, “It’s un-American, it’s reckless, and we have a process in place to handle immigrants at the border,” he said at a Congressional Hispanic Caucus gala. “We are working to make sure it is safe, orderly and humane. Republican officials should not interfere with that process by performing these political stunts.”
