10 Dead Man’s Shoes (2004) – 7.6
Transmission on Pluto
dead man’s shoes is a crime drama thriller in which Considine stars as ex-paratrooper Richard, who returns home to Matlock, Derbyshire to exact revenge on Sonny, a gang leader who abused his autistic brother.
Richard de Considine is a terrifying figure who is seemingly very gentle and calm, while in reality he is a ruthless killer. However, Richard is complicated and motivated by wanting revenge on those who mistreated his brother, despite the fact that he himself used to be disgusted with him.
9 A Room for Romeo Brass (1999) – 7.6
Streaming on Roku
In Considine’s first on-screen role, he plays Morrell, an eccentric but dangerous man who befriends Romeo and Gavin, two 12-year-old boys. He wants her help in pursuing Romeo’s older sister romantically, but turns violent after she rejects him.
Morrell bears similarities to Richard in Dead Man’s Shoes, as they are both dangerous characters who seem innocent at first. Considine delivers an impressively intimidating first screen performance, coming across as equal parts terrifying and melancholy.
8 The Outsider (2020) – 7.7
Streaming on HBO Max
In one of Considine’s most recent roles, he plays Claude Bulton, an ex-criminal and recovering addict who works at a local bar and strip club. The series, based on the novel by Stephen King, is about what is believed to be a simple murder investigation, but in reality it has a supernatural origin.
Claude is an unusual role for Considine, as he starts out seemingly unsympathetic, but then ends up being heroic. This is different from his roles as Morrell and Richard, which are much more violent and intimidating and don’t have a redemptive ending.
7 Mr. Whicher’s suspicions (2011 – 2014) – 7.7
Streaming on BritBox
Considine played real-life Inspector Jack Whicher in this series of four mystery TV movies, which also featured Peter Capaldi and Olivia Colman. The first is The murder at Road Hill House, which was based on the actual murder of Constance Kent, and the three sequels that followed were loosely based accounts of Whicher’s time as a private investigation agent.
Although only four TV movie episodes were made, Considine’s Inspector Jack Whicher goes through character development in each movie. Mr. Whicher is driven by his search for the truth more than anything else. This likeable lead role as a real-life detective stands out for Considine.
6 In America (2002) – 7.7
Streaming on Hulu
Considine stars as Jack Sullivan, an aspiring actor and head of an immigrant family in this dramatic film about an Irish family that moves to Hell’s Kitchen after the death of their youngest son, Frankie. Samantha Morton from The Walking Dead plays his wife.
Jack Sullivan inhabits a very different genre than Considine’s projects normally inhabit. Instead of being in the realm of gritty suspense where he plays a violent character, he plays a well-meaning father struggling to become an actor.
5 Informer (2018) – 7.8
Streaming on Amazon Prime
Considine stars as counter-terrorism officer Gabe Waters in this series in which he convinces Raza (Nabhaan Rizwan), a young man from East London, to go undercover for him.
Gabe Waters is a dark look at what could happen to someone who makes a living undercover. Gabe was overly influenced by the white supremacist group he had infiltrated earlier in his career. Despite this, he insists that he was just a survival tactic at the time. During his time undercover, he cares about his work and his family, which makes him a very gray character for Considine to play.
4 Hot Fluff (2007) – 7.8
Streaming on Hulu
Considine, as DS Andy Wainwright, is one half of a bumbling cop duo who oppose Nicholas Angel and PC Danny Butterman. hot fluff is about London police officer Nicholas Angel who is transferred to the sleepy town of Sandford. He and his partner Danny Butterman must solve a series of brutal murders.
Considine becomes much more comical than usual when half of the Andys and both he and Andy Cartwright (Rafe Spall) speak in unison. The two also act very immature, as if they are children pretending to be policemen instead of being real. Despite initial antagonism from him, he is not all bad and eventually believes Nicholas Angel and PC Danny Butterman once they are proven right about the murders.
3 Cinderella (2005) – 8.0
Considine stars as Mike Wilson, the fictional neighbor and longshoreman of real-life heavyweight boxer James J. Braddock (Russell Crowe) in this inspirational drama directed by Ron Howard.
Mike Wilson only has a few scenes, however they are memorable and emphasize the movie’s themes of the common man during the Great Depression. Mike is seen getting beat up by cops in a Hoovertown. Also, unlike Braddock, he wants to unionize longshoremen, while Braddock doesn’t want to fight except in boxing.
two The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) – 8.0
Streaming on Hulu
Considine plays a pivotal role as Simon Ross, the Guardian journalist investigating Jason Bourne’s past and Operation Blackbriar.
While Simon Ross is a main character, he makes mistakes that ultimately kill him. He is not careful enough in public, telling Blackbriar openly through his cell phone. He also doesn’t listen to any of Bourne’s guidance.
1 Peaky Blinders (2013 – 2022) – 8.8
Streaming on Netflix
Considine plays Father John Hughes in this drama about the Peaky Blinders gang in early 20th century Birmingham.
Father John Hughes is by far one of Considine’s least likeable roles. He is a pedophile who also tortures people and is one of the main villains of season 3. This shows Considine’s talent and willingness to play completely unsavory characters.
