There is widespread grief over the death of Mikhail Gorbachev as he lost the freedom hero who helped end the Cold War.
But the legacy of the last leader of the Soviet Union is very different at home, with many seen as the man responsible for the collapse of the Soviet Union.
His death received a wonderful response in Russia.
Many people there consider the war in Ukraine necessary to restore some of the power the former Soviet Union lost when it fell.
But is this possible?
