Team India achieved its first win of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 on board thanks to the brilliance of former captain Virat Kohli and all-rounder Hardik Pandya. However, victory was not without setbacks against arch-rivals Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday (Oct 23).

India team captain Rohit Sharma sent all-rounder Axar Patel to No. 4 in the batting order as his team chased 160 to win. The experiment failed miserably as India lost its first four wickets by just 31 runs on the board. The absence of a left-handed batter at the head of the order was painfully felt.

Captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid will consider including Rishabh Pant in the playing XI for their upcoming match against the Netherlands at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Thursday (Oct 27). Rishabh Pant did not find a place in the XI game against Pakistan with Dinesh Karthik preferred as the specialist goalkeeper at the side.

Axar Patel, on the other hand, also failed on the ball, losing 21 runs in the only over he bowled in the match. If Rishabh Pant does indeed make it to the final XI against the Dutch, Hardik Pandya will have to fill the full-time role of the fifth bowler in the team.

Hardik Pandya was also impressive on the ball against Pakistan, collecting three important wickets and scoring 40 runs off the bat, hitting a record 113 runs for the fifth wicket under Virat Kohli who scored 82*. India would also like to test Yuzvendra Chahal in place of Ravichandran Ashwin, who was less than impressive on the ball against Pakistan in the opening match.

Men in Blue will also be hoping for a convincing win over the Netherlands to boost their Net Run Rate (NRR) and solidify their place at the top of the standings. Bangladesh, South Africa and Pakistan, in addition to the Netherlands and Zimbabwe from the First Round, are in Group 2 of the Super 12 along with India. India entered the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 with high expectations of breaking their 15-year title drought and winning their second championship behind a team loaded with bat and ball talent.

Virat Kohli single-handedly propelled India to an epic four-wicket victory over arch-rivals Pakistan with a magnificent 53-ball 82 that was not out in their high-priced ICC T20 World Cup 2022 game. Pakistan recovered from a shaky start to post a 159-for-eight fight. India completed the chase on the last ball, with Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya (40) making the most of the scoring after a terrifying start to their innings.

The two revived India with a 113-run stand for fourth wicket after they reeled to 31/4 at one point. Sent to bat, Pakistan were well served by Iftikhar Ahmed’s 34-ball 51 and Shan Masood’s unbeaten 42-ball 52 after they lost their first two wickets with just 15 runs on the board in the fourth over. Arshdeep Singh picked both fit starters Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan.

India 160 for 6 (Kohli 82*, Hardik 40) rhythm Pakistan 159 for 8 (Masood 52*, Iftikhar 51, Arshdeep 3-32, Hardik 3-30) for four wickets

In the Netherlands’ first ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 match, Bangladesh scored 144/8 against the Netherlands, who lost all wickets for 135 runs. Bangladesh won by 9 runs against energetic Netherlands in ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

Dutchman Colin Ackermann fought a lonely battle when he scored 62 from 48 balls before falling victim to Taskin Ahmed. Bangladesh’s Afif Hossain scored 38 while Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 25 and Mosaddek Hossain scored 20 undefeated.

The in-form Dutch team played well for most of Bangladesh’s innings and some solid receptions on the pitch meant the Asian side could only muster 144/8 from their 20 overs at Bellerive Oval. Sailors Paul van Meekeren (2/21) and Bas de Leede (2/19) collected two wickets each. Taskin Ahmed has collected 4 scalps for 25 and Hasan Mahmud has claimed 2 scalps for 15.

After being 31/4 in Powerplay, one would say it was a pretty close game. But aside from Colin Ackerman and a few lecherous jabs from Paul van Meekeren, there was hardly any input. Bangladesh continued to pick wickets throughout the innings as the Netherlands did in the early innings.

bangladesh 144 for 8 (Afif 38, van Meekeren 2-21, de Leede 2-29) won Netherlands 135 (Ackermann 62, Taskin 4-25, Mahmud 2-15) for 9 runs

Likely XI for India: Rohit Sharma (c), KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, and Yuzvendra Chahal

The Netherlands have now lost two games in a row, continuing from the qualifying round, and are expected to alter their line-up to get back on the winning path. Experienced batsman Stephan Myburgh could replace Vikramjit Singh at the top in his second match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.
