England completed a historic 3-0 win over Pakistan in the three-match Test series that was played as part of the 2021-2023 World Test Championship (WTC). This is the first time the Asian side have suffered complete annihilation in a test series at home.
Chasing 167 to complete a shutout, England needed just 55 runs on Day 4 of the third Test at the National Stadium in Karachi on Tuesday (20 December). They flew home with ease, putting together the required runs in 38 minutes. Pener Ben Duckett remained unbeaten on 82 of 78, while captain Ben Stokes was unbeaten on 35 of 43.
Previously, the visitors had defeated Babar Azam and company. by 74 runs at Rawalpindi and by 26 runs at Multan to clinch the Test series with one game to go. Looking at the updated World Test Championship points table after the Pakistan-England Test series, Stokes and Co. are fifth with a points percentage of 46.97.
England have played 22 Tests in the current WTC cycle, winning ten and losing eight, while only four games have been drawn. They have won their last five tests.
Meanwhile, Pakistan languishes in seventh position in the WTC table. They are on just 56 points, having won four and lost six from their 12 games, with two Tests ending in a draw. With a point percentage of 38.89, they are not in contention for a place in the World Test Championship final.
Australia top of World Test Championship points table
Australia, led by Pat Cummins, maintain their ascendancy at the top of the World Test Championship points table. They have recorded nine wins, one loss and three draws in 13 Tests in the current cycle.
With an impressive 76.92 percentage, they are way ahead of the other teams. Australia beat South Africa by six wickets in a hotly debated two-day Test that recently ended in Brisbane.
India ranks second in the WTC points table with 55.77 percentage points. They have played 13 Tests, winning seven and losing four, while two games ended in draws. India’s upcoming fixtures include the second Test against Bangladesh followed by four Tests at home against the Australians.
The Proteas, who are third on 54.55 percentage points, will face Australia in two more Tests in their ongoing series Down Under.
