IND vs BAN 2022, 3rd ODI: Who won yesterday’s match India vs Bangladesh?

India beat Bangladesh by 227 runs in yesterday’s ODI at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. With the embarrassing victory, the third largest by margin of runs in the men’s ODIs, the Men in Blue avoided a 0-3 embarrassment in the three match series.

Sent out to bat first after losing the toss, the India team put a mammoth 409/8 on the board. Ishan Kishan was the top scorer with a brilliant 210 on 131 balls, while Virat Kohli chipped in with 113 on 91 delivery.

The Indian bowlers then came to the party and defeated the hosts for 182 in 34 overs. Pacer Shardul Thakur claimed 3/30, while Axar Patel (2/20) and Umran Malik (2/43) also made significant contributions on the ball.

However, the story of the match was about Kishan’s impressive tackles, which might not have materialized if Indian captain Rohit Sharma had been part of the team. With Hitman ruled out due to a thumb injury, his Mumbai Indians (MI) teammate stepped in and created history.

Kishan broke the record for the fastest two hundred in men’s ODIs, reaching the milestone in 126 balls. The previous record was held by Chris Gayle, who needed 138 deliveries to reach the 200-race mark. Hammering 210, the 24-year-old also became the fourth Indian batsman to hit a double ton, joining the elite roster of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Rohit.

India again lost Shikhar Dhawan (3) cheaply when he was caught by Mehidy Hasan Miraz lbw. However, Kishan and Kohli added 290 for the second wicket to virtually knock Bangladesh out of the contest.

I can’t put into words what I’m feeling right now, but I’ll try. I am overwhelmed by love, messages, wishes. This is an entry that will remain in my heart forever, a day that I will not forget and these moments that I will always carry with me. Thanks for everything 🇮🇳 https://t.co/xlNzuWxA4w

Kohli offered a chance early on, in the seventh of the inning. He made a Mehidy delivery to Bangladeshi captain Litton Das at short midway. The catch dropped and so did the fortunes of Bangladesh.

Four and sixes flowed off Kishan’s bat at one end even as Kohli was content to rotate the strike. He, too, opened up after crossing his half-century and recorded the first ODI hundred from him since August 2019. The incredible alliance ended when Kishan fell to Taskin Ahmed in the 36th, after a rare failed attempt at a big shot.

Kohli also perished after crossing three figures while looking for fast runs. While Shreyas Iyer (3) and KL Rahul (8) were unable to contribute much, cameos from Washington Sundar (37) and Axar Patel (20) ensured India crossed the 400 mark.

Bangladesh collapsed under the weight of the goal and were never able to get into any position to chase the total. Axar dismissed Anamul Haque (8) with his first ball and also cleared Mushfiqur Rahim (7). In the middle, Mohammed Siraj ended Das’ resistance for 29.

Shakib Al Hasan hit well for his 43 before Kuldeep Yadav bowled it out. As Bangladesh looked to go after Thakur, the pacer helped himself to the wickets of Afif Hossain (8) and Mehidy (3). Umran Malik led India to victory, downing Mustafizur Rahman for 13.

In the end, Bangladesh fell just short of Kishan’s score by 28 runs, a clear indicator of Team India’s level of dominance, albeit deadlocked.

India vs Bangladesh 2022: Who was Man of the Match in 3rd ODI?

Kishan was in top form, hitting 24 fours and 10 sixes. By his own admission after the game, he could have even hit 300 if he’d kept hitting. Kohli was off at first, but ended up hitting 11 fours and two sixes in his century.

Thakur impressed on the ball and claimed three lower-order wickets from Bangladesh. Axar was too good for the upper and middle order when he picked up a couple of key scalps.

Man of the Match was a no-brainer: Kishan won the honor for his record-breaking double ton.
