India skipper Rohit Sharma will miss the Second Test against Bangladesh, which starts on Thursday, as he recovers from a thumb injury received in the second ODI against Bangladesh in Dhaka.
The opening dilemma for the India team will also be resolved with Sharma’s absence as Shubman Gill will get another chance to open the innings following his first Test century against Bangladesh.

The Board of Cricket of India (BCCI) announced on Tuesday, December 20 that Rohit Sharma would not play in the second Test of the two-match series in Bangladesh. In the decider of the series, which begins in Mirpur on December 22, Rohit will not be able to captain India.
Due to a thumb injury, Rohit Sharma was unable to play in the first ODI in a three match series in December and the first Test. As a result, he was ineligible for the first Test. BCCI medical staff are treating Rohit because he has not fully healed from his injury, according to the board.

Rohit Sharma will need more time due to injury: BCCI
Rohit will need additional time for the injury to fully heal before he can hit again.
“Rohit Sharma is being treated by the BCCI medical team following a left thumb injury received during the second One-Day International against Bangladesh in Dhaka.” announced the BCCI.
“The medical team is of the opinion that the injury needs more time to fully heal before the Indian captain can bat and field at his full intensity. He will continue with his rehabilitation and will not be available for the second and final test against Bangladesh.” added.
Pacer Navdeep Saini will also miss the second round due to an abdominal muscle strain. According to the BCCI statement, the fast pitcher will now report to the NCA for further follow-up on his injury.
