On Friday, in the first Chattogram Test match between India and Bangladesh, Cheteshwar Pujara scored his first Test century in 1443 days. On his way to a 19th Test match hundred, Pujara scored 13 fours. Pujara ran in the latter stages of their stay to manage the hundred as the Indian side looked to declare their second innings with a lead close to 500.
This was the fastest Pujara Test hundred after 130 deliveries. His second 50 runs came in 43 balls, while his first 50 runs required 87 deliveries. As skipper KL Rahul concluded the innings with a 512-run lead, the 34-year-old was still unbeaten on 102 runs. On the other hand, Virat Kohli was hitting 19 runs in 29 deliveries.

When Cheteshwar Pujara reached 90 in the first innings of the Chattogram Test, he came very close to ending the drought. However, a dazzling left-arm throw from Taijul Islam in the 90th floored him.

Meanwhile, during celebrations of his historic achievement, Pujara denied his batting partner Virat Kohli a hug as the Saurashtra batsman kept his eyes on the ball as it reached the boundary ropes. However, he later realized his mistake and hugged the former India captain as he greeted his teammates in the locker room.
Virat Kohli only scored 19 runs during Pujara and Kohli’s quick third-wicket partnership, which saw them put together a 75-run partnership.

Century for Cheteshwar Pujara in Test cricket after almost 4 years
Pujara last reached a century in this format against Australia in Sydney in January 2019. His last Test appearance came in the fifth Test against England in Birmingham, which was pushed back to July. In the game, he had scores of 13 and 66.
Pujara returned to the Test squad in the Birmingham match after being benched for the two-match series against Sri Lanka in March due to a decline in performance.

A comeback, Pujara had a fruitful season in Division Two of the County Championship in 2022, scoring eight hundred for Sussex in all forms, including three doubles. He averaged 1094 runs at 109.4 over 13 innings for Sussex in the Championship.
