Veteran Indian goalkeeper and batsman Dinesh Karthik believes that Cheteshwar Pujara’s decision to forgo the national one-day tournament benefited the player.

Team India defeated Bangladesh by one innings and 188 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the two Test series at Chattogram.

India bowled out the hosts for 324 on the final day of the Test after defending a massive 513-run goal. However, the KL Rahul team finally broke the resistance of the hosts in the first session of the final day. Bangladesh put in a gutsy performance in the second innings, batting a full fourth day to confuse the Indian bowling attack.

Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara excelled in both innings, following a hard 90 in the first with his 19th Test Century. India put up impressive scores of 404 and 258/2 over the two innings. His sustained performance in the first Test earned him man of the match.

“Cheteshwar Pujara tends to practice there to hone his skills” – Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik praised the Indian player’s dedication after the latter put in an outstanding performance in the first Test match against Bangladesh.

“In Rajkot, there’s a lot more red soil, so it’s very different to what I was going to get in Bangladesh. He has played on such surfaces. He understands what it takes to be successful in this field. I will give credit to Pujara; he played T20s for Saurashtra before opting out of Vijay Hazare. He chose not to participate in the one day format. He chose to train for this, and you can see why. Karthik commented on Cricbuzz.

“Obviously, you will have to get into the testing mentality. He understands that this series of tests must be counted, therefore he did it. He was ready for it. He spends a lot of time practicing with his father. His father has set up a practice center where people can practice for free.”

“Pujara frequently practices there to develop her skills. He has made a concerted effort to do so in this series, and the results are visible. “You have to prepare thoroughly, and Pujara is a wonderful example of that,” Karthik added.

The Indian team will play the second test of the series on December 22 in Dhaka.
