IPL 2023: “Royal Challengers Bangalore won’t even think about Sam Curran, nor can they afford it” – Aakash Chopra

The long-awaited mini-auction for the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be held in Kochi on December 23. Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra feels that Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) cannot afford sam curran in the next mini-auction. RCB had the second lowest purse in the auction at Rs 8.75 crore, and Kolkata Knight Riders had the smaller purse of Rs 7.05 crore.

The Bangalore-based franchise retained its core team and released just five players before the mini-auction, the fewest among all teams. They have retained 18 players and a maximum of seven auction slots to fill, including two foreign players. RCB released Jason Behrendoff, Aneeshwar Gautam, Chama Milind, Luvnith Sisodia and Sherfane Rutherford.

RCB might want to go towards lefties – Aakash Chopra

In a video shared on her YouTube channel, Chopra stated that RCB would not consider signing Sam Curran. The former India starter stated that the franchise needed backing for Josh Hazlewood. He thinks they might be looking at left-arm closers and has suggested Reece Topley, Dilshan Madhushanka and Joshua Little.

“There will also be matches at Chinnaswamy this time, the simple meaning of that is: make your bowling side a bit heavier, buy someone you can get cheap. They may want to go left-handed. They won’t even think about Sam Curran, nor can they afford it.”

“It could be Reece Topley, Madushanka or Joshua Little. They may also need a backup for Josh Hazlewood because this is the year of the Ashes. Some people might flee between this year. It could also be Paul van Meekeren. This team could look towards partner nations.”

I Rate Adam Zampa A Little Higher – Aakash Chopra

Chopra believes that RCB can sign Adam Zampa or Adil Rashid as backup to Wanindu Hasaranga. The cricketer turned commentator stated that the three-time finalists should improve their lower-middle-order batting.

“If you talk about their spinning department, you can see Adam Zampa or Adil Rashid as a backup for Wanindu Hasaranga. I’ll go to Zampa, you can go wherever you want. I rate Zampa a little higher.”

“Daryl Mitchell is available. They tend to struggle in the lower-middle order because Shahbaz Ahmed and Dinesh Karthik have to do the work, so you feel like you can get one or two more guys. I don’t see Wanindu Hasaranga as an all-rounder but as a bowler, because he hasn’t contributed much with the bat in the IPL”.
