‘Mamma Mia!’ Sequel Director Ol Parker Teases Future for Film Franchise

Sounds like Oh my gosh! Here we go again Director Ol Parker might be ready to take a chance on pursuing another film in the music franchise.

Parker, who directed Universal Pictures’ 2018 follow-up to director Phyllida Lloyd’s 2008 hit Ow mom!saying rant on screen in an interview posted online Saturday that producer Judy Craymer has always intended to make a film trilogy. Craymer is credited in both films and also in the ABBA-centric jukebox musical of the same name, which was the basis for the first film and has performed in the West End and on Broadway.

“Judy Craymer, the genius producer behind the musical and the first two movies, always plans for it to be a trilogy,” Parker quipped. “That’s all I can say. The first one made a huge amount of money, and I think we made a good amount as well.”

Oh my gosh! Here we go again brought back cast members from the first film like Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård, Dominic Cooper, and Christine Baranski, as well as added new players including Lily James and Cher.

In his review for the hollywood reporterfilm critic Leslie Felperin noted that the sequel’s selection of ABBA tunes was less notable than the first: “Indeed, the film’s biggest flaw is that so much of its soundtrack, the very engine that drives it forward, it’s made up of too many real B-sides, or at least lesser-known tunes from the back catalog of Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, the two Swedish singer-songwriters who made up one half of the 1970s pop quartet ABBA.

Here we go again it grossed $395 million worldwide, well below the 2008 film’s global gross of $609 million.
