Mohammed Shami’s T20I return will be delayed as the veteran bowler has tested positive for COVID 19 and will be out of the Australia series from 20 September in Mohali. Veteran Umesh Yadav, who played the last of seven T20Is of his in 2019 against Australia is back in the scheme of things, having recovered from a quad injury. “Yes, Shami has tested positive for COVID-19. But there is nothing to worry about as the symptoms are mild. But he will have to stay in isolation and can rejoin the team once he tests negative. It is unfortunate, but that that’s it”. what life is like,” a high-level BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity.
When asked how long he thinks it will take for Shami to recover, the source seemed hopeful that he would be fit for the upcoming series against South Africa.
“We hope that Shami will be fit for the next series against South Africa. It’s 10 days before that series starts. So we are more than hopeful that you can say,” he said.
But the return of Umesh, 35, is nothing short of a fairy tale in this format, as his stint at County with Middlesex was cut short by a quad injury.
He had an excellent IPL 2022 first leg for KKR when he spun the ball at a great pace.
For Middlesex, he had an excellent Royal London Cup in which he took 16 wickets in 7 List A games, including a five-wicket, four-wicket haul.
“Umesh was doing his rehab at the NCA after he came back and it wasn’t a tear so he’s now recovered and ready to play,” the source said.
