Monty Panesar Shares Old MS Dhoni Video, Tells Hitters “That’s How You Back It Up” | cricket news

India Women defeated England Women in the third ODI to complete the 3-0 series sweep. Even with England nine wickets down, Charlie Dean almost brought the hosts to the brink of victory. But, Deepti Sharma ran her into the non-forward end as she dropped back, to seal India’s victory. The 20-year-old was heartbroken as she walked away in tears after shaking hands with the Indian players. Although many cricketers argue that it goes against the spirit of the game, it is entirely legal under the laws of the sport.

Former England spinner Monty Panesar also joined the discussion.

On Twitter, Panesar shared an old video of MS Dhoni urging players to keep the bat in the box.

In the video, from an IPL match, Dhoni is seen coming out of his crease, but keeps his bat grounded in the crease.

Even when the bowler stops abruptly in his run, Dhoni’s bat is still in the crease, ensuring he doesn’t run out.

For the record, the ICC also changed some playing conditions and with regard to “running out the non-striker”, cricket’s apex body stated that “the playing conditions follow the laws in moving this method of effecting a run out of the ‘ unfair game’ section to the ‘Sold Out’ section”.

Dean had come in with England reeling at 65 for seven in search of 170.

She put up a 38-run position with captain Amy Jones. Even after Jones and Kate Cross were sacked in quick succession, Dean kept England in hot pursuit.

Ultimately, Deepti wore her down at 47 as India won the game by 16 runs to sweep the series.

Notably, this was Jhulan Goswami’s last international outing, as he announced his retirement ahead of the England tour.

Jhulan is retiring from the sport having played 12 tests, 204 ODIs and 68 T20Is for the Indian women’s team.

Having taken two wickets in the match, Jhulan finished her career with 255 ODI wickets, the most by a female player in the format. She also took 44 Proving Grounds and 56 T20Is.
