Netflix cancels live stream of ‘Love is Blind’ after technical problems and an hour delay

Netflix had some serious problems with the live streaming of their “Love is Blind” reunion episode. We always knew going live would be tricky, as reality TV reunions always are, but after a 75-minute delay, Netflix pulled the plug on the live show.

“We’re sorry we’re late. We’re not live anymore, but now we’re finally here! Lachey said when the show finally went on the air.

Netflix addressed the debacle on its Twitter.

“We are very sorry that Love is Blind Live Reunion did not turn out as planned. We are filming it now and will have it on Netflix as soon as humanly possible,” the streamer said.

According to Down Detector, more than 10,000 users reported errors accessing Netflix around 8 p.m. ET, the time the meeting was scheduled to air. Netflix did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but the live stream displayed an error message that read: “There is a problem with the live stream. Hold! We are trying to fix it as soon as possible.”

At first, Netflix tweeted to tell users that the transmission would be delayed fifteen minutes. But the problems were not resolved so quickly.

It’s an inauspicious start for the streaming network’s foray into live entertainment. The “Love is Blind” reunion marks Netflix’s second live broadcast, which seems like a smart way to bolster its reputation as a live events destination: 30 million households watched the show’s first season, according to internal Netflix statistics. Netflix viewing. But after tonight’s delay and cancellation, “Love is Blind” fans might be just as frustrated as Kwame when he realized he would have to move to Seattle.

Naturally, fans chimed in with risqué comments online…even Blockbuster, who apparently has a Twitter account.

Blockbuster tweeted on Netflix, “Remember to rent vhs with us. You could start on time no problem… This is what we get.”

As for Netflix’s future livestreaming plans, the streamer has secured streaming rights to the Screen Actor Guild Awards, starting next year.
