Some Liverpool fans have taken to social media to express their opinions after Naby Keita was left out of the Reds’ squad for the group stages of the Champions League.

Liverpool chose their 24-man squad for the Champions League group stage matches. Summer deals also included Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho, Calvin Ramsay and Arthur Melo.

However, there are two key absentees in the Reds squad, with Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain left out. Both midfielders seem to have missed a place in the squad due to their injuries.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has been absent since pre-season, while Keita has not participated since Liverpool won the Community Shield against Manchester City. The Guinean is said to nurse a muscle injury.

Keita, whose time at Anfield has struggled with injuries, will have his Merseyside contract expire next summer. There have been suggestions that he could leave the club during the recently completed transfer window.

The 27-year-old’s unavailability following his £52.75m arrival from RB Leipzig in 2018 often angered fans. Allegations of his desire to quit the club added to their frustration.

Keita has once again become a source of frustration for Liverpool supporters after he was left out of the club’s Champions League squad. Some have gone so far as to say the player has fallen out with Jurgen Klopp.

Here are some of the best tweets about Keita being left out of the Reds’ Champions League squad:

One fan speculated on Twitter:

“Kita will leave in January. He definitely fell with Klopp, plus there was nowhere to be seen besides the injured at Anfield.”

Tweet embed This means Keita has been unavailable for a long time.. Sigh. I want to see the middle of the NFT again man.

A Liverpool fan with the username Shaun wrote:

“I have no idea how to [Keita’s] Fans didn’t even realize he was ours [Paul] Pogba. If a player doesn’t win a full fan base after four years, he’s clearly not right.”

Keita is one of the worst engagements we’ve made, absolutely useless

Tweet embed He needs to leave as soon as possible. The first offer that comes in January must be accepted. What a waste of money it turned out then.

Liverpool kicks off their Champions League campaign this week

The Reds will play their first Champions League game of the season against Napoli on Wednesday (September 7). Apart from Serie A, they will also face Ajax and Rangers in the group stage.

Klopp’s side cannot change its European Championship squad until January. However, it should be noted that the Champions League group matches will end earlier than usual this season due to the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The final match of the Anfield Championship in the group stage is expected to take place on the 1st of November. It remains to be seen if Keita will be in the squad should the team advance to the knockout stage.
