PAK vs NZ: “New Zealand would prefer a balanced approach over Bazball in Test Cricket” – Tim Southee

The New Zealand cricket team is set to face Pakistan in the first Test match which begins on December 26. The last time in 2021, New Zealand had left the tour halfway through. The Men in Green still have a long shot of reaching the final of the World Test Championship (WTC 2021-23).

Kane Williamson has relinquished his Test captaincy and Tim Southee is now the new team leader. It was quite surprising that New Zealand he named Southee as the captain, as previously Tom Latham used to lead the team in the absence of Kane Williamson.

Tim Southee in Bazball

Tim Southee was interacting with the media and was asked if New Zealand would take a bold approach. “Not Basball. I think you look at the players you have and try to make what you have work. England seem to be doing that with the style they are playing, but we have had some success in Test cricket doing it our way. The way our test game has gone over the last 10 years, is just trying to continue with that and trying to keep up.” Tim Southee said.

Poor New Zealand performance

The defending WTC champions had a forgettable 2021-23 cycle in which they won just 2 matches out of 9. The Black Caps have looked a bit faded. With Trent Boult set to miss the Test Series due to Big Bash League commitments, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) will have to find similar replacements.

Tim Southee has been quite magnificent having taken 347 Test wickets in 88 matches. The speedster has the ability to pick wickets at regular intervals. It would be interesting to see what approach New Zealand will take against Pakistan as pitching in Pakistan would be quite difficult.
