Prince Harry made a discreet visit to the UK last Thursday to attend the funeral of his uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes, according to a source. The Duke of Sussex, who flew in from the United States, reportedly chose to stay at a familiar location—Althorp House, the childhood home of his late mother, Princess Diana. The estate is currently owned by his uncle, Charles Spencer.
The memorial service for Lord Fellowes, who was married to Queen Elizabeth II’s lady-in-waiting, Lady Jane Fellowes, was held at St. Mary’s Church in Snettisham, Norfolk. Prince William, Harry’s estranged brother, was also present at the service, though the two reportedly did not interact, continuing the pattern of distance that has characterized their relationship in recent years.
According to a source quoted by People Magazine, attendees were surprised to see Harry at the funeral, noting that he appeared to be in good spirits and pleased to be there. “Most people were astounded that Harry came. He was on remarkably good form — and you could tell he was very pleased to see everybody. And he was very pleased that he had come over,” the source said.
Despite both brothers attending the service, they were seen sitting apart, and there was no reported interaction between them. A local attendee mentioned that while both Harry and William were present, “they were keeping their distance.”
The strained relationship between the brothers has been well-documented, particularly after Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped down as senior working royals in 2020. The situation worsened following the release of Harry’s memoir, Spare, in which he made several allegations against William, including an incident where William allegedly pushed him into a dog bowl during an argument over Meghan.
The last time the brothers were seen together was at King Charles’ Coronation in May, where they sat separately. Harry made a swift departure back to his family in the U.S. shortly after the ceremony, further highlighting the ongoing rift between him and the rest of the Royal Family.
