Indian captain Rohit Sharma congratulated Ishan Kishan on becoming the fourth Indian to score two hundred in ODIs. Kishan followed in the footsteps of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Rohit himself.
The young left-hander scored 210 runs from just 131 balls against Bangladesh on Saturday 10 December. He also broke the record for fastest 200 runs in ODI history in the process.
Rohit himself has three double hundreds to his name in ODIs, including the highest score of all time (264). He knows exactly how it feels to reach such a big milestone.
The Indian patron recently posted a photo of Kishan celebrating his 200th birthday and left a witty caption that read:
“Yeh club ka mazza alag hai (Being a part of this club is different and fun), @ishankishan23”
The young man complied and responded with an equally witty comment. He wrote:
“Maza hi maza hai 🤝 (This is unlimited fun)”
Rohit Sharma’s injury gave Ishan Kishan a chance to open
Ishan Kishan has been on the sidelines of the Indian ODI team for quite some time.
He made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka last year and has been on the road with the second team ever since. The 24-year-old scored an impressive half-century earlier this year on tour to Zimbabwe and also hit a stunning 93 against South Africa at home.
Rohit Sharma’s thumb injury ruled him out of the third ODI against Bangladesh and that gave Ishan Kishan a chance to show off his skills.
The lefty probably knew he wouldn’t get many chances ahead of the ODI World Cup and made this chance count for a whopping double hundred. This could put the cat among the pigeons when it comes to other starters like Shubman Gill and Shikhar Dhawan.
I can’t put into words what I’m feeling right now, but I’ll try. I am overwhelmed by love, messages, wishes. This is an entry that will remain in my heart forever, a day that I will not forget and these moments that I will always carry with me. Thanks for everything 🇮🇳 https://t.co/xlNzuWxA4w
Kishan has made it nearly impossible for selectors and team management to miss his displays. It will be interesting to see how this hit changes the landscape of India’s higher order decisions for next year’s ODI World Cup.
