Santa Barbara Film Fest: ‘Wakanda Forever’ Star Angela Bassett Tapped for Montecito Award

Angela Bassettthe beloved veteran actress who shines in ryan cooglerThe new Marvel movie Black Panther: Wakanda Foreverhas been chosen to receive the Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s Montecito Award, named after one of the most beautiful and elegant areas of Santa Barbara, the festival announced Thursday.

Bassett will collect the honor following a career retrospective conversation at the Arlington Theater on Thursday, February 9, 2023, as part of the festival’s 38th edition, which runs February 8-18.

“Millisecond. Bassett has had an illustrious career as an actor, director and producer, and his work on wakandan forever reminds us why she is so revered,” SBIFF Executive Director Roger Durling he said in a statement. “She is majestic, fierce and authoritative like Queen Ramonda. We bow.”

Bassett was nominated for a best actress Oscar 28 years ago for What does love have to do with it?and has also done outstanding work in kids in the neighborhood, malcolm x, waiting to exhale Y How Stella got her groove backamong many other movies.

Past SBIFF Montecito Award recipients include Penelope Cruz, Amanda Seyfried, Lupita Nyong’o, melissa maccarthy, saoirse ronan, isabel huppert, Silvestre Stallone, Jennifer Aniston, Oprah Winfrey, daniel day-lewis, Geoffrey Rush, Julianne Moore, kate winslet, Naomi Watts Y Javier Bardem.
