8/8 “The simplest gesture of kindness can fill a galaxy with hope.”

rebels – “Droids in Distress” (S1, E3)

Bail Organa and R2-D2 in Rebels

Bail Organa is one of the most honest and purely morally good characters in the star Wars franchise. She’s been a relatively ancillary character used to add a fun cameo from time to time, so when he does show up, it’s usually a one-note gig without the need for too much emotional baggage. However, as a perpetual symbol of hope for freedom, Bail has said some of the most purely good things.

In this rebels episode, Ezra Bridger and the Ghost Crew were on their own mission when they crossed paths with the icons that are R2-D2 and C-3PO, themselves on their own mission for Bail. The ghost crew then took it upon themselves to return the stray droids to Bail, though they didn’t learn who he is or his purpose until the end of the season, telling them this. It’s a classic statement from a character like Bail Organa, something that signifies his interest in truly helping the galaxy and restoring hope and peace.

7/8 “There are many ways to lead. You just have to find your way.”

Obi Wan Kenobi – Part 1 (S1, E1)

Bail Organa and young Leia in Obi-Wan Kenobi

When Obi Wan Kenobi was first released, most viewers expected a story about the legendary Jedi knight who protects young Luke, so they didn’t expect his sister, Leia, to be a central figure instead. Leia had some fantastic dates in Obi Wan Kenobi too, but a subtle highlight comes in his conversations with his father here. She not only admires him, although he already wants to go down his own path, but he is also inspired by her.

It is true that Bail puts excessive pressure on young Leia, which makes sense since she is a princess and the daughter of a galactic senator, and he does not want her to become his Anakin. Despite the life he believes she should lead, this moment has his note that it is still her life that he must lead. He sees big things on the horizon for her, even if she doesn’t see them yet.

6/8 “I would trust him with my life.”

While Bail had lived on as a fairly consistent supporting character in animation after revenge of the sithhowever, it was quite exciting to see Jimmy Smits back in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Of course, he was one of the leaders of the Rebel Alliance with her lifelong friend Mon Mothma. Now, fans logically expect him to appear in the second season of Andor season 2 in a similar capacity, for a quick scene here or there and a funny line like this.

On the surface, this line reads like Bail trusting Leia wholeheartedly. However, in retrospect, what Bail says has a tragic undertone. In A new hope, Leia watches as the Death Star destroys Alderaan, including Bail. Though it cost her her life, her trust in her was never misplaced. She did not resign from the Rebel Alliance, allowing the fight her father started to continue.

5/8 “…We cannot lose perspective on the value of life and the price of freedom.”

the clone wars – “Murderer” (S3, E7)

Bail Organa in the Clone Wars

In the clone warsBail was often seen alongside Padmé Amidala as part of her stories, often with Mon Mothma as well. Coincidentally, that means that much of what she discussed was political and how to best serve and protect the inhabitants of the galaxy. With Padmé and Mon Mothma, Bail opposed the ongoing war, hoping to find civil forms of peace and prosperity.

This quote is a perfect summary of how Bail thinks. He is particularly selfless, wanting to protect life and maintain freedom for all. This all occurs during an arc in which the bounty hunter Aurra Sing is trying to assassinate Padmé. Despite the danger that surrounded her, her first thoughts are about the safety of others.

4/8 “My wife and I will take the child… She will be loved with us.”

Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

Bail and Beha Organa hold young Leia in Revenge of the Sith.

When it was first introduced in Attack of the clones and the audience heard her last name, Organa, quickly put two and two together and realized who she would become. That realization was eventually solidified into revenge of the sith when he took baby Leia to Alderaan. It is by far one of the most crucial and consequential moments of all Star Warsbut it has more depth if one is aware of the backstory of Bail and his wife.

It might surprise some that Bail Organa took the name upon marrying Queen Breha Organa, who in Alderaanian tradition had to claim her right to rule. During the tests, he suffered a tragic fall and nearly died, though he demonstrated his dedication to his planet and its people by doing so. However, it means that his health was tragically affected and he could no longer have a child. As such, when the perfect opportunity arose to not only protect an innocent baby, but also give himself and his wife what they had long wanted: a child, Bail did not hesitate to seek it out.

3/8 “There is no one I trust more with my son than you.”

Obi Wan Kenobi – Part 1 (S1, E1)

Young Leia Organa serves as something of a MacGuffin throughout Obi Wan Kenobi when Bail Organa implores him to find her. Their relationship was never really explored to this point, but it is implied that given their constant closeness throughout The Clone Wars, they had developed a cordial and mutual trust.

Furthermore, this moment shows how, even after almost a decade without communication, Bail had not lost faith in his old friend or the mission they agreed to.

2/8 “We still have a duty. Don’t we?”

tales of the jedi – “Resolve” (S1, E6)

Bail Organa in Tales Of The Jedi

Bail Organa was instrumental in not only the formation and unification of the Rebel Alliance, but also in the recruitment of many important Star Wars characters. As shown in the final episode of tales of the jedi – though hopefully not the actual final episode, as other Jedi deserve to have their story told – Bail reunites with Ahsoka Tano at Padmé’s funeral.

Their conversation is quickly interrupted by the arrival of some Clone Troopers, though he still deftly manages to do what he does best: inspire. This isn’t the moment when he directly recruits Ahsoka to the Rebel Alliance as a Fulcrum, but here it ignites a small spark within her, the spark that will later burn boldly after her encounter with the Arbiter.

1/8 “Do not let them suffer because the war has come to them”.

the clone wars – “Supply lines” (S3, E3)

Bail Organa in The Clone Wars

Bond is often a source of genuine compassion and kindness without contingencies, relatively rare in Star Wars. Although he works to maintain the Republic, he does not share the animosity that others have for the Separatists, instead wanting what is best for them. He does not support war and wants to protect the innocent from his touch, regardless of which side of the division they are on.

Right now, Bail Organa is trying to rally support for the planet Ryloth, home to Twi’leks like Hera Syndulla, by traveling to Toydaria, a neutral planet. He convinced the king by appealing to his conscience and his hope for peace. If only other characters were so receptive to Bail Organa’s words and good work, the galaxy would not have been plunged into chaos and darkness.
