There’s a lot going on in MLB: record chases, division races, competition for playoff spots, and players vying for individual awards.

However, let’s not forget that it is still Hispanic Heritage Month and the New York Mets have a lot of people with Hispanic roots.

Last week, they dedicated a Twitter post to celebrate players with Dominican roots like Starling Marte, Joely Rodríguez and Mark Vientos.

On Monday, however, it was Puerto Rico’s turn.

Celebrating our teammates with Puerto Rican roots. #Hispanic Heritage Month”, the team tweeted, with a photo of seven men.

Six players and a coach with Puerto Rican roots

Mychal Givens, Francisco Lindor, Mark Vientos (also featured in the Dominican roots publication), Seth Lugo, Edwin Díaz, Tomás Nido and third base coach Joey Cora were featured this time in the Puerto Rico edition.

The Mets have a really relevant history with Puerto Rican players.

Roberto Alomar, Jose Valentin, Pedro Feliciano, Carlos Delgado, Carlos Beltran, and even Javier Baez donned a Mets uniform in the past.

Delgado and Beltran are particularly significant to fans.

There are obviously plenty of Mets fans on the island, especially now that Lindor is considered one of the team’s leaders.

Hispanic Heritage Month, for the Mets, is special: they have a considerable number of Hispanic players on their roster.

We’ve already mentioned Dominicans and Puerto Ricans, but there are also Venezuelans like Carlos Carrasco, Eduardo Escobar and Luis Guillorme (not to mention the Mets’ all-time great Edgardo Alfonzo) and people with Spanish roots, like Pete Alonso.

It could be argued that most of the Mets’ stars have Latino or Hispanic roots, including their best outfielder and most complete position player (Lindor) and their main power threat (Alonso).
