AICC Secretary General Ajay McCain said on Thursday that Congress is the only party in the country to hold an election for its president.
Mr McCain, who is in charge of Rajasthan in Congress, is here to review preparations for the party’s proposed September 4 ‘Hala Paul’ rally in Delhi.
He stressed that the presidential elections will be held according to the party’s rules.
“Everyone should be satisfied that there are no elections in any political party. Has anyone heard about the election of JP Nada in the BJP, has anyone heard about the election of Amit Shah?” He said.
Mr. Neda is the BJP Chairman while Mr. Shah was his predecessor.
Responding to objections raised by some party leaders about the fairness of the process, Mr. McCain said the elections are being held according to party tradition and rules.
Elections for congressional president are scheduled for October 17.
There is speculation that Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Jahlot is being considered for the position.
Mr. McCain, along with the President of Rajasthan Congress, Govind Singh Dutasra and Mr. Jahlot, also held a meeting with office officials and party workers from across the state through video conferences.
During the meeting, Mr. Jhelot said that the situation in the country is no secret to anyone, and claimed that democracy is in danger and that the BJP has been indulging in a polarizing politics.
He said the BJP was attacking the Congress and its leader Rahul Gandhi for political gain.
