Thursday marks a historic day in Cardinals history

Today, October 27, marks an important day in the history of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Sixteen years ago, the Cardinals accomplished something that hadn’t been done in St. Louis in nearly a quarter century.

The team had won just 83 games during the regular season, but had ignited in the postseason and came within a win of a World Series title.

That night, Adam Wainwright recorded the final out in Game 5 to clinch St. Louis’s 10th championship.

Five years later, the Cardinals rallied from their last strike in Game 6 against the Texas Rangers, winning on David Freese’s Game 7-setup home run.

A special day in the history of cards

This day is important in Cardinals history, and their two recent World Series titles had something to do with it.

It had been since 1982 that the Cardinals had taken home a championship.

But in an unlikely twist, the Cardinals managed to win the NL Central with just 83 wins and dominate throughout the postseason, knocking out the San Diego Padres, New York Mets and Detroit Tigers to capture the title. title no. 10.

In 2011, St. Louis had to fight off a 10.5-game deficit in the wild-card race.

They earned their postseason berth on the final day of the regular season, dispatched the Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers, then fended off one strike from elimination to defeat the Rangers and win their 11th championship.
