Tiger Woods cheers Serena Williams at US Open as she prepares to retire: rare photos

Serena Williams, 40, played her second US Open on August 31 after announcing her retirement – and several famous faces were in the crowd. Legendary golfer tiger woodThe 46-year-old made a rare appearance at a tennis match with his girlfriend Erica Hermann, 37, also cheered her duo. The famous athlete looked like he had a great time as he was totally smiling at multiple points in the action and even stood to applaud Serena at one point.

A few other A-listers were included in the crowd trance an actress ZendayaAnd the Vogue magazine editor Anna WintourModels GG And the Bella Hadidboss Spike LeeLegendary tennis player Billie Jean King. King kept his look casual in a black T-shirt and blue jeans, and styled the look with a gray hat and black Nike sunglasses. His girlfriend also wore a casual look with a white long sleeve button down paired with a hot pink top underneath.

Tiger’s attendance at the match isn’t surprising as he and Serena have been close friends for years. Williams’ younger sister even mentioned Tiger in a personal article about her plans to “evolve” away from her sports Vogue magazine advance this month. “I said, ‘I don’t know what to do: I think I’m over it, but maybe I’m not over it yet [tennis],” she wrote. “He is a tiger, and he was adamant that I should be a beast as he is! He said: Serena, what if you only give her two weeks? You don’t have to commit to anything. You just have to go out to the field every day for two weeks and give your all to see what happens. I said, “Well, I think I can do that.”

And although many call it retirement, the professional tennis player was adamant that she was not a fan of that word. “I’ve never liked the word retirement. It doesn’t feel like a modern word to me. I’ve been thinking of this as transition, but I want to be sensitive about how I use that word, which means something specific and very important to a community of people,” Serena wrote. The player who spanned decades added, “Probably the best word to describe what I do is development. I am here to tell you that I am developing away from tennis, towards other things that are important to me.”

During the match on Wednesday, the legendary player proved that she is still the Goat, as she beat Estonia Annette Kontaveit In a 6-2 win. Serena will move into the third round of the US Open tomorrow. And not only will she move to the third floor, but she will also start the ladies’ husbands with her sister, Venus Williams42, on Sept.
