The fifth match of the 2022 AFC Asian Cup saw a battle between the Sri Lanka national cricket team led by Dason Chanaka and the Bangladesh national cricket team led by Shakib Al Hassan on Thursday, September 1, at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
This match became a much-anticipated competition before it even began, not only because it was a do-or-die match, but because of the off-court verbal battle between the two teams.
Sri Lanka’s national cricket team emerged victorious in the bleak match by 2 wickets to become the third team after Afghanistan and India to qualify for the Super 4 stage of the 2022 AFC Asian Cup, the 15th edition of the multi-nation tournament.

Earlier, Sri Lanka national cricket team won the lottery and was elected first in the knockout match. The Lankan Lions made only one change to the starting lineup as Asitha Fernando entered instead of Matheesa Pathirana.
On the other hand, the Bengali Tigers made three changes to the eleventh play as Saber Rahman, Mahdi Hassan and Abadot Hussain replaced Anamol Haq, Muhammad Naeem and Muhammad Saifuddin.
Mehdi Hassan Miraz and Sabir Rahman opened the roles for the Bangladesh National Cricket Team. This was Bangladesh’s 12th different opening fixture in T20 21 since the start of the T20 World Cup last year.
Meanwhile, newcomer Asitha Fernando got Sri Lanka’s first breakout by knocking out Sabbir Rahman for 5 on the first time.
At the end of the powerplay, Bangladesh was at 55/1. Mehdi Hasan Miraz played risky cricket in Powerplay and got rewarded for it. However, Wanindu Hasaranga imitated him on the fifth ball from the seventh ball. He scored 38 times from 26 balls, including 2 sixty-fours.
Mushfiq Rahim (4) and Shakib Al-Hassan (24) came out in the eighth and eleventh places. After that, Mahmoud Allah (27) and Afif Hussain (39) had an amazing 57 times partnership. In the end, Mossadeq Hussain (24) and Taskin Ahmed (11) hit a healthy strike rate to help Bangladesh reach 183/7.

Chasing the goal, openers Kosal Mendes and Pathum Nisanka gave Sri Lanka a good start. However, Pathum Nissanka (20) and Charith Asalanka (1) were knocked out by Ebadot Hossain at 6 more and at the end of the powerplay, they were at 48/2.
Sri Lanka quickly lost to Dhanushka Junathilaka (11) and Banuka Rajapaksa (2) in the eighth and ninth places respectively. Al-Fath Kusal Mendis played a very impressive kick 60 times before being sent off by Mustafa Rahman at the end of the 15th.

In the end, captain Dason Shanaka played the captain’s blow and scored 45 points. Chamika Karunaratne also scored a good 16, but ran out in 19th place. Sri Lanka needed 8 rounds of the final to win the match, and Asitha Fernando’s crucial 10-time contribution helped Sri Lanka cross the finish line.

The whole thing between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh was on another level.
Shanaka said that, then Soojun, then Mahila, then Nurul, a complete war of words.
And then, this match is full of drama.

I feel bad for Hasaranga. Unbelievable bowler, but he used to hit so well that he made it as big as the bowler, now he comes out to such dumb shots. Very similar to what happened to Afridi when he became a full-time throwing player. Little boy, SLC needs to handle it better.#BANVSSL # asiacoop
