US rapper Fatman Scoop dies after collapsing on stage

US rapper Fatman Scoop has passed away at the age of 53 after collapsing during his concert on Friday in Connecticut, according to his representative. The incident occurred midway through his performance at Town Center Park in Hamden. Mayor Lauren Garrett shared on Facebook that the rapper was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.

His booking agency, MN2S, confirmed his death in a statement to the BBC, noting that the New York native’s “legacy will live on through his timeless music.” An agency spokesperson described Scoop as a beloved figure in the music industry, admired by countless fans worldwide for his iconic voice, infectious energy, and remarkable personality.

In a social media tribute, Scoop’s family remembered him as “a radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life.” They highlighted his roles as a father, brother, uncle, and friend, emphasizing his constant support, unwavering strength, and courage.

Born Isaac Freeman III, Fatman Scoop was a significant influence in New York City’s hip hop scene during the 1990s. He featured on popular tracks such as the Grammy award-winning “Lose Control” by Missy Elliott and “It’s Like That” by Mariah Carey. His sleeper hit “Be Faithful,” originally released in 1999, achieved international success in 2003, topping charts in Ireland and the UK.

In 2004, Scoop appeared on the UK TV series “Chancers” on Channel 4, which showcased musicians mentoring aspiring UK artists aiming for success in the US. He also participated in “Celebrity Big Brother 16: UK vs USA” in 2015, where he was the third housemate to be evicted.

His tour manager, DJ Pure Cold, expressed his grief on Instagram, stating he was “lost for words” at the news of his friend’s death.
