Opening the innings for India, Virat Kohli missed miserably with the bat and managed to record just 5 runs off 6 balls, before being dismissed in the second over himself. This was Kohli’s second successive failure in the series, as he was dismissed for a score of 9 in the first ODI at the same venue.
Meanwhile, on the fifth ball of the second over, Ebadot Hossain bowled a short ball just off the stump and Kohli went for the removal shot. However, today’s big hitter was unable to make a good connection with the ball and dragged it into the stumps across a thick bottom edge.

Why did Virat Kohli open the innings in the second ODI?
Master batsman Virat Kohli was forced to open the innings for India in the second ODI alongside Shikhar Dhawan as captain Rohit Sharma was unable to bat due to a thumb injury he sustained early in the match.
Rohit Sharma suffered a thumb injury while playing in the early innings of the match. The 35-year-old was fielding on the slip cordon when right-arm pacer Mohammed Siraj pulled an outside edge from Anamul Haque. The ball went to Rohit Sharma and he was unable to catch. Also, in the process, he ended up injuring his thumb and left the field for treatment.
KL Rahul was leading India in Rohit’s absence and Rajat Patidar replaced the Indian captain on the pitch. After the incident, the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) provided an update on Rohit Sharma’s injury, stating that he was assessed by BCCI’s medical team and sent for scans.
