The social media rumor mill went into overdrive this weekend after Pop Hive, a pop culture community Twitter account, claimed that Zendaya and Tom Holland were secretly “allegedly engaged.” The tweet, which did not share its origin or from which report the claim originated, went viral., and other celebrity news fan accounts picked it up. Thousands of users on Twitter also shared. But how buzz noted, while Zendaya and Holland have not addressed the unverified rumor, Zendaya’s mother Claire Stoermer apparently did so on her Instagram story. She set the record straight and even hinted that the engagement rumors were made up to generate clicks.
Stoermer posted a screenshot of the definition of clickbait, apparently taken from CoSchedule’s dictionary: “Clickbait generally refers to the practice of writing sensational or misleading headlines to attract clicks on content. It often relies on exaggerated claims or omitting key information to drive traffic. The term is generally used in a derogatory sense.
Zendaya and Holland have been together for over a year and have chosen to keep their relationship as private as possible. holland said G.Q. a year ago they had never wanted it to go public in the first place. (The footage of them kissing in a car in the summer of 2021 revealed their relationship.)
“One of the downsides of our fame is that privacy is not really in our control anymore, and a moment that you think is between two people who love each other very much is now a moment that is shared with the whole world,” Holland. she said, alluding to the video of the kiss. “I have always been very adamant about keeping my private life private, because I share a lot of my life with the world anyway. We feel robbed of our privacy.”
“I don’t think it’s about not being prepared [to share that we’re dating publicly]. It’s just that we didn’t want to,” Holland said. In terms of what he shares, he added: “It’s not a conversation I can have without her. You know, I respect her too much to say… This is not my story. It is our history. And we’ll talk about what it is when we’re ready to talk about it together.”
