Top 5 Overwatch 2 Heroes To Counter Pharah

Overwatch 2 is a popular first-person shooter game where players can team up in 6v6 matches to show off their skills and strategies. The title features a unique team-based approach in which players form teams of heroes with different abilities, each contributing to the overall strategy and gameplay.

Players can choose from three classes: Tank, Damage, and Support. These classes offer unique abilities and playstyles that contribute to the overall dynamic of the game, allowing players to work together and play to their strengths to achieve victory.

Pharah, a hero from the original Overwatch game, made her way into Overwatch 2, with some tweaks and balance changes to better suit the new gameplay environment. As a member of the Damage class, she is renowned for her exceptional mobility, making her one of the best choices for players looking for a highly mobile hero in this category.

Pharah wields a rocket launcher as her primary weapon and relies on jet packs for aerial mobility. Her abilities include:

  • Rocket Launcher (Primary Fire): Pharah’s long-range rocket launcher deals heavy damage to enemies.
  • Jump Jet (L-Shift): Pharah can activate her jetpacks to propel herself upwards, quickly gaining altitude.
  • Concussive Blast (E) – Pharah can launch a rocket that knocks back enemy heroes and disrupts their positions.
  • Barrage (Ultimate) – Pharah’s ultimate, Barrage, allows her to fire a burst of mini-rockets that can quickly take out enemy heroes.
  • Hover Jets (Passive): Pharah’s passive ability, Hover Jets, allows him to levitate into the air using his jetpacks, which are activated by pressing the jump key.

Due to her strong team, Pharah has a reputation as a hero who can frustrate players with her presence, especially when paired with Mercy, who can fly alongside her. Fortunately, there are ways to counter it.

Here are five heroes that are strong counters against Pharah.

Overwatch 2 guide: Ana and 4 other heroes to face Pharah

1) Anna

Ana is a crucial support hero to counter Pharah in Overwatch 2. With her offensive strikes and Sleep Dart, she has the potential to turn Pharah’s game into a nightmare if used effectively.

Although her mobility is restricted, Ana’s scanning accuracy is a valuable tool in mowing down Pharah in the air. One notable advantage is that her main fire doesn’t take damage falloff, making her a crucial hero for countering Pharah.

It’s important to strike a balance as Ana though, as tagging Pharah with main fire can be a game changer in a teamfight, especially when your team is already in good health.

2) ash

Ashe returns to Overwatch 2, maintaining her position as a formidable mid-to-long range damage-per-second (DPS) hero with a high skill ceiling and strong ult.

Ashe is known for her exceptional accuracy and ability to shoot effectively from long distances. Dynamite from her can be thrown towards an incoming Pharah and detonate in mid-air, potentially dealing substantial damage and taking him out.

Ashe’s shotgun allows mobility to avoid Pharah’s attacks, but can only be used for an escape, requiring quick relocation to a safe location. Additionally, Ashe’s last, Bob, can provide additional firepower to help take out Pharah.

3) Cassidy

This marksmanship hero has been dominating the battlefield for some time. His scanning accuracy is exceptionally valuable for taking down Pharah midair. With her fast rate of fire and high damage from her, throwing just three or four bullets at Pharah can spell defeat for her.

Using her grenade against Pharah can be challenging, but it’s still possible to keep her while she’s airborne, such as from a ledge or windowsill.

Cassidy’s spin move ability can also come in handy when facing Pharah, though it’s easy for her to predict where she’ll roll. Her Deadeye ultimate is also extremely effective against Pharah. If Pharah and Mercy are too slow to react, a well-timed Deadeye can take them both out.

4) Soldier 76

Soldier 76’s Hitscan primary weapon is perfect for dealing damage to Pharah when he’s airborne. His ability to run improves his mobility, making it easier for him to dodge Pharah’s rockets coming from different directions.

Additionally, Soldier 76’s healing ability gives him an advantage in terms of survivability, allowing him to stay in the fight longer and deal more damage to Pharah.

Soldier 76’s Ultimate Tactical Visor is incredibly effective at dealing with Pharah, as he can easily take her out and potentially take out a nearby Mercy as well.

5) Widowmaker

Widowmaker serves as a direct counter to Pharah. Pharah’s aerial moves make her a vulnerable target for the deadly sniper.

A fully charged headshot from Widowmaker can quickly take down Pharah, making her a formidable threat against the rocket-wielding hero. Since Pharah can’t directly attack a distant sniper like Widowmaker, she gives the latter an advantage.

However, it’s worth noting that Widowmaker’s effectiveness against Pharah depends on the player’s skill level and the specific game situation. Playing this sniper requires constant aim to create clean headshots.

Due to her aerial mobility, Pharah can be challenging to play in Overwatch 2, especially for teams that lack heroes with hitscans or strong vertical mobility. Team composition is crucial to taking down an enemy Pharah, so picking hitscan heroes with fast projectiles to neutralize her is highly recommended.
